If we compare on a state by state basis the number of States/Territories where Small Business have greater sales than large business we find that in 28/52 locations Small Business have greater sales than large businesses. In contracts 24/52 large businesses have more sales. Generally, the larger the state is involved with the federal government the more likely larger firms will have greater sales.

Small Business more Competitive on GSA Schedules than in General Federal Contracting

Small businesses in the federal contracting arena account for $105B of the total $430B in federal sales. This, as a total represents 24% of federal discretionary spending.On the GSA Schedule system excluding the Veteran Administration (VA) Schedules, Large businesses have $24.6B in federal sales and small businesses have $14.6B. This means that Small Business has 37% of GSA Schedule Sales which is a 13% greater than the normal federal marketplace.

These two factors contribute to the average GSA Schedule holder having over $1MM per year in GSA Schedule Contract Sales. Listed below are the total small and large business sales by state/territory.
